Hey there, lovely readers!
My whole body is overflowing with awe as I sit down to write this blog post. I still can’t believe it, but I did it! I stood in front of an audience and delivered my very first official speech. Let me be real with you – this was by far one of the scariest things I have ever done! My whole body shook and it felt like my heart threatened to leap out of my chest at any moment. I kept taking deep breathes to try to calm myself down.
Experiencing the connection with the incredible women in the audience was truly heartwarming.
It was incredibly touching to connect with the wonderful women in the audience. Their laughter and tears coupled with the recognition in their eyes were priceless moments. My speech, though not flawless, was genuine and heartfelt, straight from my core. Surprisingly, there was a moment during my speech when the audience’s laughter caught me off guard a little. It was different from my practice sessions, confusing yet grounding me back into reality. It had felt as if a part of me had been observing from above, watching the speech unfold, but the unexpected laughter brought me back to my body. As a recovering perfectionist, letting go of this unexpected reaction was challenging. It made me reflect on why we tend to be so hard on ourselves. Can you relate to that feeling too?
Eternally grateful for my support system
But overall, I’m beyond grateful for this experience and will cherish it for a lifetime. I owe this incredible milestone to two amazing souls, Joh Morris Benichou and Christy Morrell-Stinson, who not only gave me this opportunity but believed in me when I doubted myself. Also a huge shout out to Jamie Day, Ann Goldstein, Elizabeth Keigher, Kery Helmer, Hillary Kallenberger, Shelby isaacson, Amanda Just, Afrin Huq Khan and Nancy Benitez and so many more of my amazing friends for your love and support. And to my sweet little family – Thanks for always having my back. I love you!
Sharing my message of hope to fellow gray area drinkers
Being on stage, I felt a surge of empowerment as I shared my message of hope and recovery. But this message isn’t just for the typical narratives of addiction or sobriety; it’s for those of us who find ourselves in the gray areas of life. To my fellow gray area drinkers, you know exactly what I’m talking about – that feeling deep down that something isn’t right, yet not knowing how to escape the seemingly never-ending cycle in our alcohol-fueled society.
How can having an addictive personality be an asset?
During my speech, I opened up about something close to my heart: how having an addictive personality can actually be a strength! I bet you’re curious to know how, right? Well, I invite you to give my speech a listen; I promise I’ll tell you all about it! Link to my first speech at the Bluebird event in Sarasota is below.
